Do you have Favor?

Hello, everyone! I hope your day is well.

This blog post will focus on the story of Joseph. The man with a rainbow coat and a vivid dreamer. Joseph’s position in his father household and his prophetic dreams made him public enemy number 1 in his household. His brothers were plotting to kill him but manage to place him in a ditch. They left him there for a while and Joseph was taken by Ishmaelites and sold as a slave in Egypt. It was stated in Genesis 39: 2-4 that God has placed His favor upon Joseph and made him prosperous or better yet successful in all that he do, no matter Joseph’s placement. This favor was evident in Joseph’s life as he was sold to his master Potiphar. I want to pause for a moment to reflect on Joseph circumstances and how God allowed him to be placed in not just in any  household, but one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard known a Potiphar. This shows that God wanted Joseph to be well-taken care of even in the tragic position of his life as a slave. Potiphar recognizes the favor that was placed upon Joseph’s life by God which led to his decision to assigned Joseph the position of being his personal attendant. Joseph was in charge of Potiphar’s household, and all his possessions, except for his wife. Once Joseph was given this position the favor that was placed on his life was extended to Potiphar’s household as well. Side note: this should show you when you have God’s favors it will be evident, and others will recognize it even if they are not a believer.

Now it was revealed that Joseph was a handsome man that Potiphar’s wife noticed this and sexually harassed him. Joseph refused her on two accounts: (1) He respected Potiphar’s household and Potiphar’s position as a husband and “employer”/master and (2) Joseph feared God and does not want to sin against Him. This could be the main reason God placed favor upon Joseph’s life, since Joseph chose to be loyal and honor God by following His decrees. This is supported when Joseph stated the following: “No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?”- Genesis 39:9, NIV

We can learn that Joseph’s favor from God lead to him being favored by men as well. “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.” - Proverbs 3:3-4, NLT

So my questions to you are what is keeping you from honoring God’s decree if you have not noticed God’s favor in your life? Are you willing to seek out His assistance to be obedient to His decrees and faithfully walk alongside the Lord? I don’t know about you, but I rather be in right standing with the Lord and has His favor upon my life through various trials that life has to offer. I hope this blog post was a blessing to you as it was to me.

Grace + Peace, lovelies!
